So I just got the news that I'm doing a second interview for Teach for America. For those of you who haven't heard my spiel on this: it's a program that gets you certified to teach in a summer, then ships you off to at-risk schools to teach for two years. Often you can get your masters of education while you're doing it which would be sweet.
I'm kind of excited by the possibility. I'd like to get out of Provo finally, test my chops on something bigger and meaner and more dangerous than my life so far. I've really enjoyed teaching thus far and think this would be a good next challenge. And maybe a good lead-in to PhD, right?
From the peanut gallery--Melissa: "You'll get shot! Did you know that 1 in 4 teachers get shot once a week?"
Dad: "They'll eat you alive."
Rachel: "I don't know if I could handle the heartbreak."
Yeah. And yet. There's something in me that loves a challenge.
I'm not sure if I'll do it still: Maeser (the school I'm at right now) is talking about hiring me on full time next year. I could do a UVSC certificate or find a job somewhere else. I'm not sure where I'll be in the fall. I'm not sure even if I'll make the final cut, though I'd hire me if I were they. I'm just oozing with the motivated idealism that they're looking for.
Anyway, my final interview is in April. I'll keep you posted.

Is this Kjerstin? You would be awesome for this! But wasn't Armenia big and mean enough for you? Just kidding :-)
Yeah it's me. And Armenia only whet my appetite...:)
