The best part of the course: around mile 9, we turned a corner in the canyon to the sound of drumbeats. It was a pretty straight shot, and though the drums were echoing, we couldn't see the source, which ended up being (I found as I approached) like 8 women with these huge Asian-style drums, drumming their heads off.
Brilliant stuff! There is nothing like huge, deep, primordial-feeling beating to get your blood pumping and your feet moving. The last three miles were crap, but this was a good send-off into the void.
Also, and Rachel and Randy will have to laugh and also forgive me, the rides there and back with the boys were priceless.
Jeremy and Molly, we missed you a lot.
Thanks again for going along with a whim, friends! Go team go!

Congratulations all three!!!! That is so amazing, I am very impressed. Wish we could have been there too!
When Kjersti says the ride with the boys was "priceless" she means the ride was rowdy and loud filled with nonsensical screaming, flying objects and ultimatums, and spankings all around. Living with three boys is not for the faint of heart. Thankfully she's a good sport and doesn't have the number for Child and Family Services.
Ok I just laughed so hard, my favorite part was the nonsensical screaming. You finally put into words what I have been trying to describe for years. I can't believe we are both doing this! Totally nuts.
